This is 7th and Final Shadow Wars. SW has always been a jam “By the people – For the people” and we work hard every year to ensure the people have a dope time they’ll never forget.

This year will be no exception. We wanna go out with a blast!!!

- FRIDAY 2ND -

We’ll be kicking off the start of the weekend in typical Shadow Wars tradition with WORKSHOPS going down at “Crossover studios”, followed by a PANEL DISCUSSION with our special International guests.

That night we’ll be holding a pre-party….Venue will be the REDBULL HEADQUARTERS!!!

ATTENTION BBOY/BGIRLS: We’ll be holding prelims at the pre-party for the final spots in the 1 on 1′s. So you MUST be there if you’re planning to compete in the 1 on 1′s.

- SATURDAY 3RD - 

This year we’re doing something different…..We’re excited to announce that the main day will be held on “COCKATOO ISLAND” in Sydney harbour. To get there you need to catch a ferry from circular quay…..THIS IS NO JOKE!!! The venue we have to say, IS THE BEST VENUE WE HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!!! Like I said at the top of the page. GOING TO BE F*$%ING EPIC!!!!!!!

We’re going that step further this year, and making the door cover a personal DONATION. We’re leaving it up to each individual to decide on how much they wish to pay to get in. If you have nothing…..then all we ask of is your presence at the event.

Because its the last Shadow Wars we dont wanna finish at the after-party…we wanna keep it going all weekend.

Sunday we’re planning to hold the official “SHADOW WARS FAREWELL BBQ”… This is part of our farewell gift to the scene for all the love and support over the years. Its been a dope journey and we’ve shared some killer experiences with you.

What we’d love for everyone to do is:

1. Bring a plate of food(drinks if you wish). Can be anything!!! We’ll have tables set up to put all the grub on and create a massive feast..

We’ll be rocking the BBQ too true Down Under steez!!!

2. Bring your blackbooks, collectibles, shisha pipes, guitars, drums, surfboards WHATEVER!!! The party aint over yet!!!

Heavy D’s last performance was at the BET Hiphop Awards – October 2011.

This is only ONE of my favourites that Hev threw out in the 90s.

Returning to Melbourne for 2011, the AUSTRALIAN B-BOY CHAMPIONSHIPS is the longest running and most prestigious b-boy competition in the country. The Championships will once again see the top b-boy crews from around Australia battle it out for a cash prize and bragging rights to being number one in the nation.

For the 8th year anniversary, we are taking the event back to the grass roots of b-boy culture with a new elimination battle format and warehouse style Hip Hop party. The venue this year is ’1000 Pound Bend’ right in the heart of Melbourne CBD and during the Melbourne Music Festival Week. Once again we have some of the worlds best b-boys judging, Australian finest Hip Hop and Breaks DJ’s, Live Graffii Displays, Emcees, one on one b-girl comp, the Zulu 61″Catching Wreck Award”and the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This year will certainly not be one to miss!!

The international guest judges will include world renowned dancer Poe One from Style Elements Crew and B-boy Wicket from the Renegade Rockers USA. They are two of the most respected and influential b-boys from the west coast of the United States in the modern era. Along with Japan’s finest, B-boy Katsu, they will see to it that the best b-boy crew on the day gets crowned the champions.

The music will be supplied by Australia’s Best Hip Hop and Breaks DJ’s including DJ Jumps from The Cat Empire, Dexter from The Avalanches, DJ Peril from 1200 Techniques and record guru Sage 1 from All Consciousness.

The B-boy Champs continues to unite all the elements of Hip Hop and the event is suitable for all ages and ideal for family’s to come down and enjoy the cultural vibe of peace, love, unity and having fun. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $20 with kids under 10 free.

The new elimination format:

i) One designated general MUST be assigned as the head representative of the crew to lead squad into battle. They will be the crew contact point for event briefings with organizers and judges.

ii) Crews can have a maximum 8 members only. (minimum 5)

iii) Dancers can be as creative as they want with their attires however competing crews will need to wear, similar if not same themed, same
style attire similar to a uniformed-look for judges to easily identify them.

iv) Seven roving judges will be in and amongst 4 designated battle spots, with the judiciary deciding the top 4 crews going onto the semi-final standard crew vs crew battle.

v) A 2 hours “Break-out” will be allocated for elimination time. There will be 4 designated battle spots in the venue where crews will gather to battle. 10 minutes x 10 blocks will be allocated for battle time. Start and finishing times for each block will be announced over the PA. The music will play continuous throughout this time for b-boys and b-girls to cypher.
Crews will rove to another battle spots and actively “seek
out” their next opponents until the duration of the elimination time is finished. This is known as a free for-all battle format, encouraging “Cypher” creation and the original essence of positive battle in Hip Hop culture, in a party/jam atmosphere. Your crew can battle as many times as they want (what ever they think is enough to prove they are one of the top 4 dominate crews). No winners are judged for the elimination battles, the judges will be only looking for who is catching wreck and dominating.

vi) Organisers highly encourage routines but it is not compulsory to use them in battle. There will be a limit of 2 Routines per Battle. Crew routines inclusive of commandos, pairs, triples should try to keep them within 2 bars of 8 counts minimum or 4 bars of 8 counts maximum.

There will be cypher time galore on a perfect dance floor so even if you don’t have a crew, don’t miss out!
